Using Momentum Strategies To Find the Outperformers in the Nasdaq-100

In the investing world, momentum is the tendency of past winning stocks to keep winning.

CFRA’s Head of ETF and Mutual Fund Research Todd Rosenbluth moderated a webinar featuring ProShares, Director, Investment Strategy, Kieran Kirwan, CAIA, and Nasdaq Dorsey Wright, Head of Research and Client Engagement, Jay Gragnani.

During the webinar they discussed momentum investing for an informative program. The webinar included a discussion that explored “Relative Strength,” Dorsey Wright’s flagship approach to momentum investing, and how it may help unlock the outperformance potential of companies in the Nasdaq-100 index. They also discussed the stocks inside a new and interesting ETF.

Todd Rosenbluth

Head of ETF and Mutual Fund Research, CFRA

Todd is Head of ETF and Mutual Fund Research at CFRA, leading the firm’s holdings-based research efforts. Todd publishes regular thought leadership content on equity and fixed income products, supports the quantitative fund models, and interacts with clients.  He also serves as a member of CFRA’s Investment Policy Committee. Todd has frequently provided ETF education at Inside ETFs conferences and been quoted in media outlets, such as Barron’s, New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal. He also held Senior Director of ETF and Mutual Fund Research for S&P Global Market Intelligence.

Todd holds a BGS in Finance from the University of Michigan and an MBA in Finance from New York University.

   

Kieran Kirwan, CAIA

Director, Investment Strategy, ProShares

Kieran Kirwan joined ProShares in 2013 and currently serves as Director, Investment Strategy. His responsibilities include portfolio analysis, education, product research and development, and the presentation of investment strategies using the company’s ETFs. Prior to joining ProShares, Mr. Kirwan served in a variety of roles during a 15-year tenure with Deutsche Asset & Wealth Management (Deutsche Bank). Most recently he was a Vice President, serving as lead investment specialist representing several strategies in the global equity, commodities, infrastructure and real estate asset classes to prospects and clients.

Before that, Mr. Kirwan was Vice President, Product Strategy and Economics, responsible for the platform’s product profitability and distribution strategy initiatives, Vice President, Finance and Controlling Group, and an Associate Vice President with the Financial Reporting Group.

Mr. Kirwan earned a bachelor’s degree in accountancy from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, holds Series 7 and 63 FINRA registrations, and holds the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst designation.

   

Jay Gragnani

Head of Research and Client Engagement, Nasdaq Dorsey Wright

Jay Gragnani joined Dorsey, Wright & Associates (DWA) in 2005 after working as an intern at DWA, gaining valuable insight and experience. As an analyst for DWA, Jay regularly conducts market research and contributes original writings to the “Daily Equity & Market Analysis Report”.

In addition to having been a guest on financial radio programs and a speaker at local Universities, Jay has conducted training sessions with investors and financial professionals around the world. Jay has also been an integral part of the team on the research and product development side of bringing new products to market, and more recently has taken on the responsibility for heading up the research and client engagement efforts. In addition, Jay is the leader of DWA’s educational efforts, where he oversees the coordination webinars, seminars, and the Company’s broker institutes.

He is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) with a degree in Finance, and resides in Richmond, VA with his wife Jennifer and three children.
