We see opportunities for Huawei to counter the U.S. blacklist stripping Google software and services from the Android operating system for Huawei phones, via a collaboration with super-app developers e.g. Tencent, Meituan Dianping and Bytedance.
Super-app ecosystems provide a reasonable replacement for Google-based Android applications relatively quickly and will also allow super-app developers to expand their reach into new markets (e.g. South-East Asia) by riding on Huawei’s brand popularity.
We see positive implications for Tencent, Meituan Dianping, Bytedance (unlisted) and Huawei (unlisted), while we see negative implications for Google owner Alphabet.
